Aromatherapy Candles

Aromatherapy candles are designed to create therapeutic calming and energizing effects through the use of essential oils entering the body by inhaling the aroma. The overall idea of aromatherapy is to make use of scented oils to heal the body, improve mood, and relieve stress. With smell being one of the most powerful senses, candles are becoming a more popular less expensive alternative to massages and other spa treatments.

All scented candles are not true aromatherapy candles despite some claiming to be. In order for a candle to be a true aromatherapy candle it must have true essential oils and must have plenty of it in the candle. If the scent in a candle is synthetically created or doesn’t have enough essential oils in it, it will not produce the same calming or energizing effects. Essential oils are extremely concentrated scent oils found in plants, spices and woods, and can be extracted from any given area of the plant.

Often times scented candles will create calming psychological effect simply from the ambient aroma of certain fragrances. When this happens it is known as “aroma-chology,” but is not the same as aromatherapy. Some common aromatherapy scents include, bergamot, eucalyptus, lemon, jasmine, juniper, lavender and many more, all having different effects on the mind and body.  Usually the effects will include calming and relaxing or energizing and sharpening senses.
