Candles

The popularity of candles is ever growing. It is estimated that seven of ten American households are using candles for decoration, aromatherapy, or air freshening. With over 400 candle manufacturers typically offering between one and two thousand varieties of candles each, the possible uses and choices of candles is endless.

New more efficient ways of candle making are frequently being introduced by modern technology. However, the most common way to make candles is the timeless process of dipping a cotton wick into wax repeatedly. After that, the wax can be molded, pressed, rolled, filled into some type of jar or container, and many other methods. Paraffin is the most popular wax, but waxes and mixes of waxes, such as soy, palm, gels and synthetic waxes are common as well.

The use of candles can be traced back to 3,000 B.C., when Egyptians used them to light homes at night and various religious ceremonies. Now days, despite the invention of electricity and the light bulb, it is still difficult to find a home without some type of candle in it.  From pillar, jar, tealight, floating, and novelty candles to outdoor, bug repelling, utility and birthday candles, the uses of modern day candles are endless.
