How do I get wax out of carpet?

Using candle holders is the best way to prevents spilling wax on carpets, however if wax does happen to get into you carpet, the best way to get it out it to first allow it to cool. After the wax is cool place a paper towel over the top of the wad and iron the towel slowly. This will cause the wax to melt and stick to the paper towel.  If the candle is made of soy wax the spill will likely come out with hot water and soap.

When and why should I trim the wick?

It is important to keep the wick at about a quarter inch above the wax to prevent the wick from smoking. Even the nicest candles will smoke when the wick gets too long. Keep in mind that trimming a cold wick can cause the wick to break, so it best to trim the wick shortly after the candle has been put out.

Why do environmentalists prefer soy wax?

Soy wax is preferred by environmentalist because it is not made from petroleum like paraffin candles, it is all natural so it will not increase the CO2 level in the atmosphere. Beeswax is also all natural, but is much more expensive.

What is the best way to burn scented candle so it will last long?

When burning a jar candle it is important to burn it long enough for the wax to pool all the way out to the edges of the jar. This usually takes a couple hours, but will prevent wax build up on sides so the entire candle can be used. Once the wick gets really low in larger jar candles they can be difficult to light, but instead of throwing them away at that point use long matches to light the wick. If you don’t have long matches, use a short match to light a long piece of spaghetti and then use the spaghetti to light the wick.

Are scented candles safe?

Yes. When a candle burns, the wax is drawn into the wick. The flame then absorbs of “consumes” the wax to produce water vapor and carbon dioxide.  The only difference with a scented candle is a harmless fragrance is released into the air with the water and carbon dioxide. Some fragrances may induce an allergic reaction, however the allergy must be very strong in order for this to happen and it is very rare.
