Soy Candles

Soy candles are relatively new to the candle world. They were invented in 1992 when a man named Michael Richards was searching for a cheaper alternative to beeswax. Since then the candles have grown quickly in popularity as they are an all natural wax like beeswax, but not as expensive. They are especially popular among the environmentalist as a natural alternative to the more common paraffin wax.

Paraffin wax is made from petroleum, which is why soy candles are preferred by those who are environmentally conscious. Soy is all natural so it doesn’t increase the CO2 levels of the atmosphere when a candle containing soy is burned. Beeswax is also all natural, but is much more expensive then both soy and paraffin wax.

Soy wax is also often mixed with fragrances and is thought by some to produce the strongest and longest lasting scented candles. Some feel that soy wax will soon pass up paraffin wax in popularity, due to the environmental push for soy candles combined with their low cost and effectiveness.
